Rally at Beccles Library

Councillor Graham Elliot

3rd March 2011 - Rally at Beccles Library

Local members of the Green Party, including District Councillor Graham Elliott, joined a rally at Beccles Library to protest against the axe hanging over our library service and the possible sell off to a private company.

Graham Elliott said "We believe that libraries are a core public serivce and should be run for the benefit of local communities and not for the benefit of shareholders. In times of economic hardship libraries become even more important to local communities as people have less money to buy books, DVDs etc, and have even greater need of internet access, adult learning facilities and other information. Libraries are no longer just about books; they are genuine community centres where people can meet friends, take the children or simply shelter from the rain to read the newspapers."
