Elfrede Brambley-Crawshaw

District Councillor for Beccles, Worlingham, Barnby and North Cove.

I have an interest as an advocate for young people, finding that they are often underrepresented in political decision making. I have visited all schools in the area and arranged activities to ensure that these young people feel engaged with the political process and know how to become ‘change makers’ within their community.

Elfrede has been a Green Councillor for 7 years, working closely with Graham Elliot ?? and in 2018/19 was the first Green Mayor of Beccles.

In 2017 Elfrede was the first Green Councillor from the East Suffolk area to gain a seat on Suffolk County Council, this achievement marked an important milestone for Waveney Green Party. She was leader of the Lib-dem, Green and Independent group and has provided consistent and much needed opposition to the large Conservative administration.

Elfrede was instrumental in getting Suffolk County Council to declare a climate emergency, commit to a biodiversity strategy and improve the offer for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by committing to build more SEND schools.

In the 2019 elections she handed the batton of Suffolk County Councillor to Caroline Topping and Peggy Mcgregor, retaining her position in Suffolk District Council.

Community

She is keen to develop community spaces for people to enjoy and has worked hard to improve the towns play parks and Green spaces. She established Beccles Community gardeners, has successfully chaired Beccles Neighbourhood Plan, and was involved in setting up the Beccles Station Cafe.

She is keen to plan events that bring the community together, examples include Remembrance Sunday Lantern parade, the relief road cycle event, Beccles ‘Give and Take’ and a series of events celebrating 100 years of Women’s Suffrage.
