Bungay Greens

On May 4th Toby Hammond and Anthony Speca were both elected to East Suffolk District Council, representing Bungay.

Toby Hammond and Anthony Speca.
Toby Hammond

Toby Hammond grew up in Homersfield and attended school in Bungay.  After spells working in London he now lives with his young family in Barsham.  He runs a successful company based in Bungay which brings solar energy to small farms across Africa and Asia.  In recent years Toby has campaigned to clean up the River Waveney and organised a protest against AnglianWater’s sewage discharges, resulting in upgrades to the Bungay sewers.

Anthony Speca

Anthony Speca has lived in Bungay since 2014, having moved from Canada to the UK and started a family here.  He’s both a secondary-school teacher and university lecturer whose varied career in academia, business and government included some years living and working in the Arctic.  Anthony has been working recently to improve road conditions and safety in Bungay, resulting in action from the Council at numerous locations in town.

May 2021 – Bungay residents protest about sewage in the River Waveney

The community of Bungay has a long history of involvement in environmental and community projects. Many of us have been heavily involved in leading the (apolitical) Sustainable Bungay community group, the Save the Geldeston Locks Community pub project, and running events such as the legendary and long-running Greenpeace Fair which was held in the Saints for many years.

The river Waveney is an important part of the town’s history, wildlife, and an amenity for swimming and boating. Residents have been outraged to discover Anglian Water frequently allows raw sewage to overflow into the river at multiple points around the town. So our latest campaign in Bungay is to force the water company to stop using the river as a sewer.
